Coda Keel is a four-chair studio. We cut to how your hair actually falls, colour in a way that grows out kindly, and tell you plainly what will and will not hold at home.
Every price below includes the consultation, the wash and the finish. Longer or denser hair takes more product and more time, so the upper figure is the honest one for hair past the shoulder.
Cut & finish
60–75 min · 55–75
Cut dry first so we can see the fall, then washed, refined and finished. We agree the shortest version you would be happy with before anything comes off, and we keep the weight where it earns its place.

Curl & texture cut
75–90 min · 70–95
For waves, coils and anything that changes its mind when it dries. Cut curl by curl on dry hair, then washed and diffused so you leave seeing the shape you will actually wear, not a blow-dried version of it.

Colour — tonal & grey blending
90–120 min · 85–140
Gloss, root melt, tonal depth and soft grey blending. Built to fade in tone rather than in line, so a missed appointment never leaves a shelf across the back of your head. Patch test needed at least 48 hours ahead.

Lightening — foils & freehand
2.5–4 hrs · from 150
Balayage, half-head and full-head foils, and correction work. Quoted after a strand test because the honest answer depends on what is already on your hair. We would rather take two appointments than one risky one.
Strand test first
Staged over visits
Bond care included
Prices are in studio credits and confirmed in writing before we begin. A cut booked within eight weeks of a colour appointment is charged at the lower end of its range.
First visit
How a first appointment runs
Roughly fifteen minutes of it is talking. That is the part that decides whether the rest goes well.
Consultation, dry
We look at your hair unwashed and unstyled, ask what your mornings are like, and find the line between what you want and what your hair will hold without daily effort.
Test, if colour is involved
A patch test behind the ear at least 48 hours before, and a strand test on the day for any lightening. Both are free and both are non-negotiable.
The appointment
One stylist stays with you start to finish. You will be shown the shape in the mirror at the halfway point, while there is still room to change direction.
Aftercare, written down
Before you leave you get the wash cadence, the heat setting and the two products that matter for your hair, written on a card. No shelf of bottles you will not use.
Care notes
What keeps it looking cut
Most of the difference between week one and week four happens at home. None of it is complicated.
Wash less, rinse more Two or three washes a week is plenty for most hair. On the days between, rinse and condition the ends only — that is where the dryness lives.
Heat under 180 One pass at a lower setting beats three passes at a high one. If your iron has no numbers on it, assume it runs hot and keep it moving.
Hard water dulls tone If your kettle furs up quickly, your colour is fading faster than it should. A weekly chelating wash brings the tone back without a salon visit.
Sleep on it properly Silk or satin, and dry hair rather than damp. A loose plait keeps curl intact and cuts morning work roughly in half.
Book the trim, not the rescue Ends thin out before they split visibly. Every ten to twelve weeks keeps a shape; leaving it to six months means losing length to fix it.
On growing out a previous colour: bring photographs of what was used and roughly when, including box colour. It is not a confession — it changes which product we can safely put on your hair, and it is the single most useful thing you can bring to a first appointment.
The chairs
Who you will be sitting with
Three stylists take bookings by name; the fourth chair is kept for apprentice work at a reduced rate on Wednesday afternoons.
Marlowe
Colour & correction
Spends most of her week on tonal work and rescuing box colour. Best person to see if you want to go lighter without losing condition, or if a previous salon left you with a line.
Idris
Precision cutting
Short shapes, blunt bobs and the kind of fringe that needs checking every five weeks. Cuts almost everything dry and will tell you honestly when a shape will not suit your growth pattern.
Junia
Curl & texture
Works with waves through tight coils, including transitioning hair. Keeps appointments long on purpose so there is time to teach the finish rather than just perform it.

Worth knowing
Quiet hour runs Tuesday 9:00 — 10:00: no music, one stylist, no walk-ins.
Patch tests take five minutes and can be done any open day, no appointment needed.
Late evenings on Wednesday and Thursday are the first to fill — request those two or three weeks ahead.
Apprentice chair runs Wednesday afternoons at a reduced rate, always supervised.
Bring reference photographs of hair a similar texture to yours; colour on fine straight hair rarely reads the same on coils.
Step-free entrance, and a chair that can stay put if you would rather not move seats mid-appointment.
Questions
Asked most often
Do I really need a patch test?
Yes, for any colour service, and at least 48 hours before the appointment. It takes five minutes and can be done on any open day. Reactions to colour can appear after years of using it without trouble, so we repeat the test if more than six months have passed since your last one.
Can you fix a colour done somewhere else?
Usually, though rarely in one sitting. Book a colour appointment and bring whatever detail you have about what was used and when. We will strand test first and give you a written plan — sometimes that plan is two visits six weeks apart, which is the difference between fixing it and damaging it.
How often should a fringe be trimmed?
Every four to six weeks for a blunt fringe, a little longer for a soft or curtain shape. If you have had a cut with us in the last twelve weeks, a fringe trim between appointments is included — it takes ten minutes and does not need a full booking slot.
Is curly hair cut differently here?
It is cut dry, curl by curl, before any washing. That way we shape what you actually wear rather than guessing at shrinkage. Curl appointments are booked longer than a standard cut because the finish and the drying method are part of the service, not an afterthought.
What happens if I need to move my appointment?
Let us know at least 24 hours ahead and we will move it with no fuss. Inside 24 hours we will still try, but long colour slots are difficult to refill at short notice, so a second late change may mean we ask for a deposit on the next booking.
Can I bring my child to their own appointment?
Yes — children's cuts are welcome on Friday and Saturday mornings when the studio is calmest. We keep those slots short and simple, no colour services under sixteen, and a parent stays in the room throughout.
